Announcements

12/5 Here is a study guide for the final exam (to be held December 14).

11/20 Here is Lab 3, due Friday December 7. Because of the end of the semester, and the fact that you will need to be studying for the final exam, there will be no extensions to this due date. You will need the Lab 3 data file ; right click on the link and save the data file to a good location.

11/6 Here are more study ideas.

11/2 Due to popular demand, here is an initial draft of the study guide for the second midterm (to be held November 12).

10/30 Here is Lab 2, due Friday November 16. You will need the lab 2 data file ; right click on the link and save the data file to a good location. If you are using Octave (not Matlab), for the last few problems on the lab you will need the files dct.m and idct.m. Save them in a location in Octave's path.

10/30 Before starting the second lab, you will need to set Matlab/Octave's path so that Octave can find data you save on your computer. Follow the instructions for setting Octave's path. You'll need the file demoscript.m to test that you have set you path correctly.

10/30 The second midterm will be Monday, November 12. Stay tuned for details.

10/8 Here is Lab 1, due Friday October 19.

10/8 Here are some study ideas for this Friday's midterm.

10/3 Here is a Matlab tutorial from a differential equations class that I taught. Its perspective is a little different from our class, but it will be helpful in getting started. Once you are done with that tutorial, move on to plotting tutorial for more advanced plotting techniques. The tutorials have exercises, but these are for YOUR benefit. Do not hand them in.

10/3 Here is the transcript of the Octave demo from today.

8/31 We will occasionally use Matlab or Octave to help with homework assignments. Matlab costs about $100 for the student edition. Octave is a free program that has a very similar syntax to Matlab. Matlab is also available on the computers in the Math Lab and in the Engineering Lab.

8/31 For students using Windows and Octave, please follow these installation instructions.

8/31 For students using Mac OS X and Octave, the installation is a little more complicated. First read the installation instructions. Then follow them; you'll need to download both Octave for OS X and Gnuplot for OS X.
