I was born here in Fairbanks in 1969, and have lived here all my life except the six years I spent in grad. school. I went to Woodriver Elementary, Ryan Jr. High, and West Valley High School. I attended the University of Alaska, Fairbanks from 1988 to 1991, and finished with a double degree B.S. in computer science and mathematics in 1991. In the summer of 1991 I married Heather Strandberg, and left to get a Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Illinois . While there I did a lot of work at NCSA doing virtual reality and computer graphics. (See my old projects page.) In October of 1995 we had a beautiful baby girl, Sarah. I finished my thesis in graph theory under the direction of Douglas West in 1997, and came back to Alaska. Here I have a joint appointment with ARSC and the Computer Science department. In 1998 we had a boy, Robbie, and we finished up the family with Naomi, born in March 2001.
