Nonlinear Iterated Function Systems, Rendered on the GPU
Linear Iterated Function Systems (IFS) such as the Sierpinski Triangle
are well known, but nonlinear IFS are much less common. Virtually
the only nonlinear IFS rendering software in wide use today is based on
Scott Draves' Fractal Flames
approach, which typically is rendered using a feed-forward or direct
iteration rendering method. Unlike this prior work, we show how
to use texture mapping and programmable graphics hardware in a
nonlinear version of the deterministic iteration algorithm, which
produces much less sampling noise, and can produce high definition
animating nonlinear fractal images in real time.
