Alaska AVHRR Satellite Images

This directory contains imagery received by the HRPT (High Resolution Picture Transmission) Station located in Rm. 226 (ADVAL) of the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The images are received from two of the NOAA weather satellites - NOAA 11 and NOAA 12 and processed directly after reception. Only bands 2 (near IR) & 4 (thermal IR) of the 5 bands are processed to browse images. These images have been sub-sampled so that the whole pass length will fit within a 900x900 image size. The initial processing and reception is accomplished by a TeraScan HRPT Station. The final processing steps are accomplished on a SGI Onyx located at the Institute of Marine Science.

The daily composite is updated with every pass. The current composite image is shown here. Click on the image to load the hourly animation loop (Quicktime movie).
Animations for the past 30 days are available in the HRPT archive.
