Fall 2002 ( Ed Bueler )

Assignment #8

Due Wednesday 12/4

Note:   You may always use Matlab to do computations on the homework.  However, when explanations, arguments, "show that ..." are called for, you need to include your written answer in English.  Also, please try to minimize the amount of paper your solution uses.  You can copy a few numbers by hand, sometimes, to save a page-long printout with only those few numbers.  Suggestion: Print out programs and write in the white space.

From text (Cheney&Kincaid, 4th ed.):

§6.1: Problems: # 1, 3bd, 4, 5, 6a  [With the exception of 5, do these by hand.]
§6.1: Computer Problems: #  7  [Just put the system of three equations into Matlab!  This problem shows that Matlab already handles complex matrices fine.]
§6.2: Problems: #  1, 2, 6, 12, 15, 16, 17, 19   [All by hand.]
§6.2: Computer Problems: #  4, 5 [use  " A\b  " instead of Gauss and Solve]
§6.3: Problems: # 1, 2a, 4
§6.3: Computer Problems: # 3, 4, 18

Read §7.1.  (No exercises.)  Read §7.2 and do the following exercises:
§7.2: Problems: # 1, 6, 13
§7.2: Computer Problems: # 4, 5
