Math 302: Differential Equations                                                 Fall 2000 (Bueler)

Grading of Homework

One third of the final course grade will come from homework assignments.  There are two types of homework:

Type

Points

Grading

1. regular exercises from the book 30 points  =  5pts per problem times 6 problems a selection of 6 problems will be graded;
complete solutions provided for 6 assigned problems that will not be graded
2. group projects 30 points all members of a group get the same grade

Of course, some assignments contain both regular exercises and a group project.  So some assignments are worth 60 points and others 30 points.

At the end of the semester, I will drop your lowest grade on a regular exercises part and I will drop your lowest grade on a group project.

All the remaining homework points will then be added together to get a homework point total.  Then I will adjust that total so that the distribution of the homework grades approximately matches the distribution of the exam grades.  That will determine the homework third of your grade, according to the scale on the syllabus.
